From the race director.
Quick summary for those who don't want to read the whole thing. Matt & Steph & Justin are getting a little bit screwed...I would would feel bad for them, except Steph is getting 2 of my miles. :)
Natural Disaster in Sturbridge MA
As I mentioned in Monday's email, the exact route we were to run through Sturbridge has been impacted by the tornadoes (there was a typo in my last email, I called these hurricanes, but obviously tornadoes are much worse).
For the last 2 days we have worked closely with the Sturbridge Police Dept and Massachusetts Department of Transportation to come up with a course re-route that would be safe all involved. Unfortunately, we were unable to reach an agreement and consensus was that we cannot pass through Sturbridge at all.
We also looked at options to run around Sturbridge, but any route we explored added at least 15 miles to the course, which would be unfair to you and unfair to the volunteers who have scheduled their shifts quite diligently.
How does this impact you?
As legs 4 and 5 pass through Sturbridge, those two legs are cancelled.
What is our solution?
To maintain the spirit of the event, such that there are 36 legs, runners 4 and 5 should now run legs 2 and 3 at the same time as runners 2 and 3, and your team will have 2 runners on the road for those legs. To make it a bit more clear, here is the new mileage matrix for the course. Changes are in red.
